Aidan Friedsam
Computer Science
Aidan is a Computer Science major at the University of Michigan. After teaching himself to code at the age of 14, Aidan fell in love with programming, tinkering and creating. Aidan loved participating in Hackathons in high school and even helped run a Hackathon at his own high school. Last year Aidan participated in his first TOM Makeathon where he 3D modeled and printed a new tennis racket handle for a man who loved to play wheelchair tennis, but struggled with his grip strength. Aidan is eager to join the team at Michigan as more than just a participant where he hopes to combine his love for engineering and problem solving with his passion for giving back to the community.

Amer Yono
Education and Software Engineering
Amer is a senior in CSUSM’s Education Program, focusing on Software Engineering. Most recently, he worked with students at CSUSM to automate engineering principals in applications. Amer has helped thousands of people in the gaming industry. He created an application that instructed gamers on how to play a very difficult game. Amer was also a community development specialist, organizing and presenting workshops to students in engineering.

Amit Lavie
Industrial Design
Amit is a third-year student of industrial design, an experienced yoga instructor,
and a Chinese medicine therapist. Her top interests are inclusive design, sustainability, technology, ergonomics, health, society, sports, and movement.
She previously volunteered in “Elifelet” after-school child-care facility for immigrant kids, and also as a coordinator in the social movement “Standing Together”.

Ana is a 5th year architecture student at Florida International University, perusing her masters. Ana first participated in a TOM event in 2021, where she had an amazing experience collaborating with people from different majors sharing the common goal of creating devices that can adapt to people with especial needs creating an equal world for everyone. Benji Meiner

Benji is a third year Mechanical Engineering student at Cooper Union. He has a knack for design and is extremely excited to combine his computer aided design (CAD) experience and interest in mechanical systems to help others. He has been developing a 3D printed bionic hand and hopes to continue this project, and produce others like it, during his fellowship with TOM. This year he will continue to apply his creativity, motivation, and innovation to each neglected challenge and is enthusiastic to brighten the lives of those in need.

Blake Hanan
Bioengineering
Blake is a Bioengineering PhD student at Harvard University. Prior to starting at Harvard, Blake completed a B.E. and M.S. in Biomedical Engineering at Vanderbilt University. Here, he was a founding member of the TOM:Vanderbilt community, where he participated in 5 projects. He was the Community Organizer and Fundraising and Finance Chair for the 2019-2020 year, organizing a make-a-thon with 14 teams. At Vanderbilt, Blake's research involved fabricating microfluidic devices for biophysical and drug delivery applications. Blake's research at Harvard will be in the Mooney Lab designing immunomodulatory materials to help fight cancer.

Carmen Victoria Cornejo Huatuco

Carmen is a 3rd year Electronic Engineering student at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, interested in rehabilitation engineering, artificial intelligence, research and project development. She has worked with different interdisciplinary groups which have allowed her to develop her leadership and team management skills. She will be working this year to strengthen a TOM community at her university.

Daniel Levine
Biomechatronics
Dan Levine is an imaginative and curious researcher who enjoys using his skills to create technologies that help people live independent and freely. He is currently a PhD student at MIT in the Biomechatronics Group led by Professor Hugh Herr, where he designs quiet, discreet, and adaptive robotic limbs prosthetics for urban navigation. He previously studied as a Masters student under Professor Hiroshi Ishii in the Tangible Media Group, where he developed an interactive method for translating visual media into moving tactile forms for the blind, and at Cornell Tech, where together with fellow students he developed Pallette, an open-source tongue computer interface for paralyzed individuals (pallette.io). He enjoys bringing his interaction design skills together with his technical background in mechanical engineering and computer science to make useful creations that are both highly functional and a joy to experience. Outside of his research work, Dan loves flying airplanes, flairing around the pommel horse, painting models, and eating watermelon.

Daryn is a senior studying Mechanical Engineering and mastering in Product Design. Her passion for adaptive design began in high school with the flagship TOM high school program at The Leffell School in Hartsdale, New York. She has carried this excitement for making and helping people throughout her involvement in various high school and college organizations, and as a piloter of TOM's Manufacturing and Distribution program. Daryn is thrilled to bring her hands-on experience, inspired by TOM, back to the organization.

Dilnaz Amantayeva
Economics and Interactive Media
Dilnaz is a sophomore student at New York University Abu Dhabi pursuing a major in Economics and a minor in Interactive Media. In summer 2022 Dilnaz did an internship at Astana International Finance Center (AIFC) where she learned more about the organization of hackathons and coding events for students. In her senior year of high school Dilnaz created a game prototype for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), which made her passionate about innovative and effective methods of making tools and games inclusive for people with ASD. Dilnaz is also interested in the Effective Altruism (EA) and ways to do good better, and she's on her way to complete the Arete Fellowship. She hopes to contribute to the TOM community using her knowledge in building prototypes and in EA principles.

Huh Dam Adam
Engineering Product Design
Adam is a Freshmen in Singapore and loves anything robotics and entrepreneurship. His passion for robotics started when he built his first solar-powered robot at 6 he never stopped making robots ever since. Paired with his experience in entrepreneurship, he co-founded Stick ‘Em in 2021 with the aim of making quality STEAM education accessible to all with disposable chopsticks, 3D printed geometric connectors and a comprehensive online ecosystem designed to educate, challenge and foster collaboration amongst tinkerers from anywhere.

Jose Castro is an Electrical Engineer senior that plans to go as far lengths as he can. He always had a passion to learning and teaching. Learning Electrical Engineering is a never-ending learning experience. Jose grew up in a low-income household and made the impossible by being the first in his family to go to college and acquire a degree. By being a fellow, he plans to not only help the community but to spread more awareness of how it is possible to help the community. He plans to help everyone get exposure in hands on projects plus to enjoy the experience of helping others.

One of her favorite aspects of TOM is that people are able to make a difference in their community by focusing on those with needs that may be overlooked by others. Leah is a Junior at the University of Michigan, studying information analysis in the School of Information. Her involvement with the TOM program at her high school, the Leffell School (formally known as Schechter Westchester), as well as her passion for helping different communities is what led Leah to join the TOM community at Michigan. In 2020/21, Leah helped organize the first ever TOM: Michigan design challenge, and in 2021/22, she helped coordinate TOM: Michigan's first ever makeathon! She looks forward to growing the TOM community at Michigan this year.

Lindsey Bruns is a second year at the University of Virginia planning to major in chemistry and cognitive science with a concentration in neuroscience. Her focus is on neurodegenerative diseases and related sciences. Service has always been a priority to her, as shown in her involvement with the Madison House, UVA Autism Allies, Sentara Hospital and others. Lindsey ran track and cross country throughout high school and continues to do so with Club Running at UVA. She enjoys spending time with friends and family and being outdoors. Through the TOM fellowship, she plans to focus on improving her community’s needs, through not only technology, but education.

Mark Rayant
Green Technologies
Mark's most recent work experience is in wastewater treatment systems, startups, website & mobile app development and design, user experience & quality assurance, and archeologic preservation & curation.
Outside of his studies Mark is working to launch two startups, one focusing on green energy and the other in communications technology. He works regularly with 3D printing and prototyping, and volunteers through the Viterbi Impact Program.
Mark is currently pursuing an MS in Green Technologies at USC's Viterbi School of Engineering, class of 2024. He received his BSBA in 2020 at the Marshall School of Business with a minor in Archaeology.

Michael Nunes is a second year at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. He is pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a possible minor in Aerospace. Outside of engineering, Michael focuses a lot of his time either running, or lifeguarding at MIT. Michael loves to compete in distance events such as the 800m and the mile! When not studying up in Boston, Michael heads home to New City, New York which is about 40 minutes outside of New York City. When home, he spends a lot of time catching up with his two sister, one of which is his twin! Michael is so excited to meet everyone within this fellowship and change the world for the better!

Michal is a student at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art studying Mechanical Engineering and pursuing a minor in Biology. Since she was a kid, she has always been passionate about helping individuals with disabilities. She is excited to weave her experience as a caretaker for children with special needs into her growing interest in biomechanics to develop solutions for unmet challenges individuals in these populations face. Noah is an Electrical Engineering and Economics student at the M&T Program at UPenn and has had a passion for creating solutions to real world problems for years. The Tikkun Olam mindset has connected his interests in engineering, business, and helping others. His favorite project that he worked on is a napkin folding device that enables people with developmental disabilities to fold table napkins for restaurants. Outside of TOM, he is the copresident of PIPAC (Penn Israel Public Affairs Committee), on the board of Penn Aerial Robotics, loves the beach, and plays soccer.

Roni is a Biomedical Engineering Ph.D. student at Tel Aviv University. She graduated a Bs.cs in Biomedical engineering and neuroscience. Roni's ambition is to work on projects with significant potential for medical use and to better the life of people suffering from brain impairments. She volunteered in the past year in the TAU branch of “Engineers without borders” and plans to continue this year, combining her activity with initiation of the TOM community in the university. In her spare time, Roni enjoys hanging out with friends, running, reading and hiking.

Sara is double-majoring in Child Development and Medicine, Health, & Society. From her research in children's cognition and development, Sara is passionate about boosting children's outcomes through accessibility and empathy. Sara explored her interest in inclusivity as TOM: Vanderbilt's Maker Recruitment Chair during 2021-2022 and loved being a part of TOM's creative and meaningful innovation. She is now excited to lead TOM: Vanderbilt through a Makeathon that connects the Nashville Community with global progress in engineering and human-centered design. Scott Salling

Father, husband, veteran, cancer survivor, and friend. Scott is a Systems Engineer in the aerospace industry while completing a Mechanical Engineering pursuit. With a deep passion for prosthetics sparked during service, he now seeks to bring opportunities to those whose paths were presented with challenges. Having experienced the goodwill of others and believing the kindness is at the core of creativity and innovation, Scott strives for a law degree in the support of providing necessary guidance to startup businesses with intention to service our community and impact social awareness. He desires to pass on the importance of teamwork and compassion to his family and the understanding that challenges are merely opportunities. He has a good understanding of what it is like to have barriers in life that make moving forward feel impossible. Some challenges are just that, only trials that force you beyond your comfort zone to explore and help you grow into your strong self. Scott learned a long time ago that perseverance and teamwork surpasses any obstacles. In the unlikely event of leisure, Scott may build, woodwork, and draw. More often than not, he chooses to spend time with family.

Shoshana Distenfeld

Shoshana is a junior studying bioengineering at the University of Maryland. She is also in a UMD interdisciplinary business and engineering program, engaging in experiential, hands-on team projects. Equipped with skills from both disciplines and a desire to better the world around her, Shoshana is excited to start her second year in the TOM fellowship and continue expanding the TOM community at Maryland. This past summer she interned with TOM's Research & Development team in their Tel Aviv office, and she can't wait to apply the knowledge and experience gained from working in such an established TOM community to her own campus.

Samdar is an undergrad student in the Education and Multidisciplinary Design department. She is passionate about design of all kinds, industrial design, graphic design and human design through education. Smadar is not afraid of challenges, and finds them important to the learning process, therefore she took it upon herself to lead TOM community on her campus after a year of activity there. Sophie Ana is a third-year studying the intersection of engineering, design, disability studies, and business, with the goal of designing adaptive devices to enable independence for people with ranging abilities and to make society more accessible. She is also minoring in Computer Science. She has worked on many projects in the past relating to adaptive design, including a motion-activated door opening attachment and a support to allow a paralyzed person to ice skate. Sophie Ana is extremely excited to be a part of the TOM community as TOM embodies her exact goals in working to provide opportunities to people of all abilities.

Thomas Beltrame
Biomedical Engineering - Rehabilitation and Assistive Technology
Thomas is currently pursuing a Doctoral Degree at Flinders University, investigating the intersection between rehabilitation, music therapy and virtual reality. His specialties are in Biomedical Engineering and Data Science, having designed and built an assistive trumpet and respiratory rehabilitation device in his undergraduate degree, and focusing on machine learning and software engineering since graduating.
Thomas has a passion for rehabilitation and assistive technology and hopes to build a TOM community in Adelaide, Australia. As a TOM Fellow, he plans to facilitate innovation and collaboration between local Makers and Need-Knowers and connect the university with industry partners.
Outside of work and study, Thomas is a keen squash player and active musician. He aspires to design inclusive recreational and rehabilitative products, to provide everyone, regardless of physical capability, the flexibility of choice.

Yiğit is a senior student in Materials Science and Nanoengineering and Mechatronics Engineering at Sabancı University. Continuing to work to be a global change pioneer that creates disruptive innovation, Yiğit desires to transform his competencies in materials science into practices useful to the world, especially with a startup in the biomedical field. He is living in Istanbul, which is one of the most exciting cities in the world. Yigit's biggest passion is to discover new continents. Yuho Okita
Occupational Therapy and Telerehabilitation
Yuho is a PhD researcher at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. His PhD research topic is to investigate a client-centred goal-setting method in telerehabilitation. Yuho is practising as an occupational therapist in Australia. Yuho is also working as a clinical lecturer and assistive technology evangelist in Japan. As an occupational therapist, Yuho looks at not only the person’s impairment or challenges but also their accessibility, meaningful activities, occupations and goals. Having a holistic mindset, Yuho assesses and determines the best possible solution for people who require any support to maximize their participation and quality of life.

Zach Schneider

Zach is a sophomore at Duke University studying mechanical engineering and finance. In high school, he and his twin brother co-invented Spine Ice, an ice pack designed to assist those with lower back pain (www.spineice.com). In his free time, Zach works for the Blue Devils football team, is involved in Greek life, and enjoys hanging out with friends exploring Durham. Zach learned of the TOM fellowship from a friend at UVA and is excited to bring this program to Duke. He looks forward to collaborating with like-minded Duke students and making a positive impact in the local community.
